This weekend, you have many options for things to do in Los Angeles with your kids. Families can honor our country’s veterans, learn about Japanese American history, and much more.

6th Annual Harry Potter Roller Skating Night
Moonlight Rollerway

Families are invited to a Harry Potter themed roller skating party happening on Saturday, April 8th from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The event features music from the films, costume contests, a raffle, vendors, and more. Admission is $15 which includes skate rental.

Big Sunday’s 4th Annual Vets’ Night and Dinner
6111 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90038

Don’t wait for Veteran’s Day to honor our vets. Big Sunday is hosting a special Vets’ Night and Dinner on Sunday, April 9th from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. This special event will include entertainment, games, and more. Guests will also write letters to military personnel on active duty. Big Sunday is collecting comic books for Operation Gratitude to include in their care packages that are sent to service members deployed overseas, and they are also collecting unexpired non-perishable food for the Downtown VA. 19th Annual Chumash Day Powwow and Intertribal Celebration

Honor our country’s Native Americans at the Chumash Day Powwow on Saturday, April 8th from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. The event will feature representatives from hundreds of tribes, as well as tribal ceremonies, dances, food, and craft vendors. (Admission is free and a free shuttle service is available from the corner of Webb Way and Civic Center Way).

Free Family Day: Celebrate Japanese American History
Japanese American National Museum
100 N. Central Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90012

Families are invited to the Japanese American National Museum on Saturday, April 8th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This free event will allow families to learn about Japanese American history as well as actor and activist George Takei. Special activities are planned throughout the day including many different arts and crafts and story times.

6th Annual Otis Kite Festival
200 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401

The sky above Santa Monica Beach will be full of kites on Saturday, April 8th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This year’s Kite Festival will honor Tyrus Wong, a Disney legend (creating concept art for Bambi), as well as ceramicist, painter, and kite maker. Families can even create their own kites on site (while supplies last).

Kids Krazy Kraft Day

Get ready to get creative and have some fun at Kids Krazy Kraft Day on Saturday, April 8th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Mini-tours will be offered as well as papermaking demonstrations, cartooning demonstrations, calligraphy demonstrations, and more. Don’t forget to bring a white t-shirt to make your own souvenir as you learn about screen printing. Admission is $10, and tickets are available online.
