Thanks for asking!
Over the fall we hosted our annual Thanksgiving Stuffing event where more than 1500 people of all ages and backgrounds showed up at the awesome Baldwin Hills Elementary School to enjoy donuts, bluegrass, a drum circle, and one another. Oh, and we also filled 3200 bags full of delicious holiday food for hungry and grateful people at nearly 90 different nonprofits and schools throughout LA. Plus, of course, it was an enormous honor to host Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Between recipients, volunteers, food collectors, donors, and others, this one event touched more than 15,000 people.
We were incredibly busy for the holiday! We gave away tons of toys and gift cards to underserved families all over town, welcome baskets and bikes for formerly unhoused vets, sent Santa to a local youth shelter, holiday carolers to an organization that helps unhoused families, provided Christmas trees to several nonprofits and also curated a resource for volunteers who want to help in the community with over 400 ways to help over the holidays!
And most recently, an enormous crowd – with people of all ages and all backgrounds – joined us for MLK Day at the awesome 24th St. School to pack and give away 2,023 bags full of brand new warm clothes to all kinds of struggling people; paint murals; do all kinds of other hands-on projects to help all kinds of struggling people; buy lemonade to help a struggling family; explore our growing Civil Rights exhibit; have their picture taken together; and then enjoy breakfast together all while listening to the incredible Blue Breeze Band.
Things are changing very quickly, and we’ll do our best to keep you up-to-date. Please check us out on Facebook and Instagram. You can also sign up for our email updates here.
