The Living Writers Series High School Book Donation Program sends authors into Los Angeles High School classrooms to perform poems and stories from their publications. The Living Writers Series was created to fill the void of having literature relevant to the student’s culture and community. Once a month, Los Angeles writers who have published books visit LAUSD classrooms, and perform their works for students. The readings are traditionally followed by book signings, where interested students are given a free copy of the author’s work. In the summer of 2017, we aim to donate 1,000 books a month to several local high schools. In order to reach our goal, we are having a Phone Drive on August 19, 2017 to get people to sign up as donating members.
The phone drive is, in essence, a telethon, where we will have writers, parents, teachers, and organizers excited about the cause calling others to get involved.

There will be poetry and singing performances – all happening at the USC Doheny Library. This event will take place in-person and via Facebook Live. Patrons will have the opportunity to call in and make a donation towards the Living Writers Series High School Book Donation Program.

We need help calling people to sign up as donating members.
